What characterizes Japanese food?

What characterizes Japanese cuisine and Japanese cuisine is that the portions are often very small.
During a meal eat Japanese 6-8 different dishes that contain little fish, vegetables, soy sauce and seaweed that are prepared in various ways.

The many small dishes are to make sure you do not feel heavy or stuffed after a meal. The individual dishes are light in texture and very tasty which makes it easier for the body to digest food.

In Europe we have a large selection of tasty vegetables which you can turn into a unique gastronomic experience that offers many new flavors.

Private dining for the former US Ambassador Rufus Gifford

Rufus GiffordIn 2015 I was asked if I would like to make sushi and Japanese dishes for a private party at the home of the US ambassador Rufus Gifford.
I said of course yes. To my great joy the US ambassador is very fond of the authentic Japanese cuisine.
It turned out to be some exciting and fast-paced hours I went several times in the dining room to present the individual dishes.

The evening went well I got many compliments from US ambassador Rufus Gifford and his partner Stephen throughout the evening and the next day.

How does a Japanese meal differ from a European meal?

GyozaA Japanese meal is exceptionally healthy and is very good for your body.
Fish is the foundation of Japanese cuisine. This means that fish plays an important part in almost every meal. I am not only talking about a piece of fish but also fish stock, fish flakes, dried fish and so on.

The Japanese do also keep their bodies healthy and slim in way that they eat detoxifying ingredients.
Vegetables and seaweed is eaten in large quantities. Beside that the Japanese do also eat plenty of ginger and soy which plays an important part in Japanese cuisine.
The Japanese do also like to eat meat but it takes up a lot less than what we are used to in Europe.

The healthy diet is the direct cause of the Japanese live so long.

How to use tofu in the Japanese cuisine?

Zoë EsccherIn Japan eaten soy such as tofu eaten in unlimited amounts, it is a healthy source of protein.
There are many different varieties of tofu in different price ranges and qualities. When the variety of tofu in Japan is very high so I cannot assess which brand is best.

The consistency of tofu is very different some types are soft while others are fixed. Which tofu are best suited all depends on the dish and how you would like to use tofu in your dish.

More and more Japanese prefer to make tofu at homes. It’s cheaper and you also have a freshly made tofu at hand.

Sushi constitutes less than 20% of Japanese cuisine. The Japanese do love sushi but the Japanese cuisine has so many tasty and love dishes to offer.

The Japanese cuisine is influenced by neighboring countries such as Korea and China. 100 years ago Chinese dishes were introduced in Japan, and then adapted to the Japanese taste.

Therefore, you will find Gyoza on the Japanese menu which is Japan’s version of Chinese dumplings. Gyoza is extremely popular dish which is often served as a small starter.

In Tokyo you can find many small food places that only server’s gyoza. They might have 15 different kinds of gyoza that look alike with different kinds of filling.
